William Norman Gaunt was born in Leeds In 1918 and studied at Lancaster School of Art under Walter Bayes R.W.S.. He gained his National Diploma in 1949 and was made a Fellow of the International Institute of Arts and Letters in 1959.
He exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in London as well as holding one man exhibitions throughout England and abroad.
After early experiments in painting subjects and styles, including a brief hommage to the ‘double landscape’ works of Ivon Hitchins, he went on to concentrate on Equestrian subjects in an impressionistic style for which he later enjoyed much acclaim.
